The effects of play therapy on the self - concept and problematic behaviors of sexually abused child

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to improve self-concept and to decrease problematic behaviors of sexually abused child through play therapy.
The subject was 4 year and 8 month old boy who was referred to the Center for the Child Abuse Prevention. The Play therapy Program was administrated for 20 sessions. Each session was fifty minutes. The therapeutic approach of this study was based on child-centered play therapy in which therapist gave the client acceptance and support.
The results were as follows:
1. The self-concept of the subject was changed from negative to positive through the play therapy. The processes of that charge in the play therapy sessions were like these :expressions of anger and damaged self-concept ; awareness of his own feelings ;enactment of the trauma, self-empowering, judgement thward the abuser ; ventilation and catharsis, recovering self-concept.
2. There was decrease of problematic behaviors involving aggression, withdrawal and anxiety.
